Resetting Adium’s search index
My IM logs have become one of my most precious bits of data on my laptop. I use Adium which has a pretty decent search but, since I got a new laptop, it was letting me down big time despite me having transferred all my backed up logs (normally located in ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default/Logs/). A mate at work mentioned it could be because I had lost the search index. Turns out he was right. According to the Adium blog you can force a rebuild of the search index by quitting Adium and deleting the 'Adium' folder at ~/Library/Caches. Adium will rebuild the index the next time the log viewer is open. Despite the blog post dating back to late 2003 I tried this in Adium 1.3.10 and it worked fine.
